Epic Dating Failures: Top 30 Messages to Never Send

Survey: Worst Dating App Lines Include 'Send Pics' And Eggplant Emoji. Genuine Interactions Key To Success.

Dropping a one-liner on a prospective date might seem enticing, but it can often prove a romance repellent. A recent survey of single people revealed the 30 worst messages to send a potential match, with “send pics” and the eggplant emoji ranking as the biggest turn-offs.

“It’s clear from the research that first impressions are so important, and so many people waste this on an awful opening message on a dating app, which ends the spark before it’s even started,” said Marco van der Woude, cofounder of the dating app Breeze, which conducted the study, per Yahoo News. To address this, Breeze has removed the chat function, encouraging in-person meet-ups instead.

Sexually suggestive messages were also extremely off-putting, according to the poll. Examples include: “Hey sexy, what’s your number?”, “Do you like bad boys/girls?”, and replying “Without me?” when someone mentions showering. Such messages rank third, fourth, and fifth in the list of digital dating deterrents.

But wait, are you ready to dive into the wild, wacky world of dating app disasters? Hold onto your hearts, because we're about to reveal the top 30 cringe-worthy, laugh-out-loud, "Did they really just say that?!" messages that are guaranteed to make your potential match swipe left faster than you can say "eggplant emoji." Even seemingly innocent phrases like “You’re so hawt” and the British expression “phwoarr” are disliked by many, ranking fifth and sixth respectively. Contrary to what pickup artists might claim, slinging cheeseball one-liners is a surefire way to stay solo.

The survey highlights that a third of respondents also dislike classic lines such as “Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?” and “I think my Spotify is broken. You’re not listed in the hottest singles.” Clearly, the key to successful online dating lies in genuine, thoughtful interactions rather than clichéd or suggestive remarks.
