Dating Nightmares: Here’s what you should do if the ‘Evil Dead Rises’

Updated: Nov 28, 2023

“Dive into dating app challenges: ghosting woes, exes returning with false hopes, and safety pitfalls awaiting. ”

The modern world of online dating has opened doors to countless romantic possibilities. Yet, a recent survey conducted by the Indian dating app, QuackQuack, sheds light on some unexpected, and often unwelcome, trends in the digital dating landscape.

The survey garnered responses from an impressive 10,000 participants across India, painting a vivid picture of the challenges faced by digital daters. A standout finding was that 18% of respondents admitted to being ghosted – abruptly cut off without explanation. This underscores the necessity of clear communication and honesty in the online dating realm. Ghosting can be a harrowing experience, with those ghosted often left grappling with feelings of confusion, rejection, and hurt.

However, ghosting isn't the only dating horror that's on the rise. GenZ daters have coined a new term, "Evil Dead Rise," to describe a phenomenon where ex-partners make a surprise reappearance, bearing false promises. Alarmingly, 37% of users aged between 20-26 reported experiencing this unsettling resurgence.

Another unnerving trend is the "Zombie Match." Here, 31% of female users from Tier 1 and 2 cities have faced matches who vanish, only to reappear sporadically. The advice for those on the receiving end of such behavior? Avoid re-engaging with these so-called zombie matches.

Of course, the challenges aren't confined to the younger generation. Around 12% of male daters above 30 from Tier 1 cities shared tales of first date nightmares. In the age of video calling, a suggested remedy to this is to start with virtual meet-ups, allowing potential partners to gauge compatibility before meeting face-to-face.

But it's not all doom and gloom. As the vast world of dating apps unfolds, it also provides opportunities for meaningful connections. However, the sheer number of profiles can be overwhelming and raises safety concerns. Fears about encountering "creeps" or "stalkers" are growing, exacerbated by incidents like the infamous Tinder Swindler case. In response, platforms are constantly refining their algorithms, aiming to match profiles based on common interests, which can serve as a protective measure against such pitfalls.

While the landscape of online dating is dotted with hurdles like catfishing, image abuse, and cyberstalking, it also offers a horizon filled with hope. The key is to navigate this realm with caution, guarding personal information and being discerning in interactions. With the right precautions, the world of online dating can transform from a potential nightmare into a thrilling adventure.
