Peter Gray Defrauded Women on Tinder of Over $100,000. His Victims Express Disbelief as Tinder Tightens Its Security Measures.

Peter Gray, a 35-year-old from Yorkshire, UK, used Tinder to meet and defraud women out of over $100,000. He won the trust of his victims before stealing personal information to commit fraud, leaving a trail of distress and disbelief in his wake.
Gray's victims included Jessica, Hannah, and Elizabeth, all of whom were left devastated by the experience. Jessica recounted how Gray stole photos of her driving license and bank cards during their third date. A few weeks later, she discovered unauthorized withdrawals and loans taken out in her name.
Similarly, Hannah was shocked to find out Gray had taken out a $25,000 loan in her name. Despite this, she got back together with him after he showered her with gifts and love declarations. However, after learning more about his deceitful history, she decided to protect herself and her unborn child from Gray.
Elizabeth, another victim, experienced similar tactics. Gray sent her flowers despite never having her address and took out a $12,000 loan using her driver's license information. She expressed disbelief at having been deceived so thoroughly, noting that he was skilled at becoming the person she wanted him to be.
The pandemic has seen a significant rise in romance scams globally. In 2022, Americans lost over $1.3 billion to such scams, while UK victims lost approximately $115 million.
To combat this, Tinder has implemented new measures to protect users from scammers. They encourage users to verify identities, utilize AI tools to detect suspicious activity, and promote fraud awareness through partnerships with NGOs and authorities.
