“Tinder & Peacock tap into horror's dating appeal, launching movie interests & events just in time for Halloween. ”
As Halloween approaches, the online dating realm is taking a thrilling twist. Tinder and Peacock, the streaming service, have unveiled new features this October, focusing on the unmistakable synergy between dating and the chills of horror movies.
It's no secret that horror films are making a significant impact in the online dating world. A striking 42% uptick in Tinder bios mentioning "scary movies" showcases the trend. In fact, 63% of users believe watching a spine-tingling horror flick is the ideal date activity, with nearly half asserting that a shared passion for horror indicates deeper compatibility.
When it comes to dating and movies, while comedy remains the top genre pick at 71%, horror closely trails at 69%, even surpassing rom-coms by 1.5 times. Not surprisingly, leading the pack of preferred horror franchises are classics: Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Chucky, The Purge, and Saw.
Peacock has astutely responded with its "For You and Your Boo" collection, launched on October 5. Boasting over 500 spine-chilling titles, it's a treasure trove for horror aficionados.
Why is horror gaining such traction in the dating world? The adrenaline-pumping experience not only encourages physical closeness (51%) but also creates excitement (46%). Plus, it offers an unconventional way to break the ice (43%). Interestingly, 74% of users are game for a horror movie on a first date. Yet, the third date remains the most popular for embracing the dark side. Still, 33% believe there's no 'right' date number for a horror night.
Adding a cherry on top, Tinder has introduced a new "Horror Movies" Interest badge. The terms "scary movie" and "spooky movie" see a mention spike in October, up by 42% and 204% respectively. To wear your horror love on your profile, simply tap on the profile icon, scroll to 'Interest', and add "Horror Movies".
Exclusive treats are also in store! Tinder users can enjoy an exclusive Peacock offer from October 4-31. And for those in NY, LA, and Chicago, RSVP through Tinder for horror movie date nights on October 13.
This collaboration between Peacock and Match Group, Tinder's parent company, announced earlier, combines Peacock's rich content with Match's cutting-edge technology, fostering unique user connections.
This entire endeavor is a part of NBCUniversal's "Halloween Horror" promotion, spanning multiple platforms like Peacock, SYFY, and TODAY, ensuring an unforgettable spooky season for all.
